OH COLLEGE

soooooo. no updates lately and i'm ashamed. maybe this pretty picture will suffice? being overwhelmed by school is an understatement, so who knows how much i will be updating art or diy's because they can be time consuming. this semester will definitely be the most challenging and adding on to that i have a volunteer position! this is a good thing, but this will also be limiting my blog activity. my blog will probably be a lot more life and california oriented until i have more control and time in my schedule.

i am thinking of making a post on how i organize and manage school and life. it may help whoever wanders on this blog, but will also help keep my life well organized and managed by having it be a constant reminder. i am trying to keep my life more orderly. it's a favor to myself.

now for a song. i have always known who tracy chapman was, but i had never heard of her song 'give one reason' until recently. such a great, soulful song. kelly clarkson also does a great cover.

this picture was taken near the pike and shoreline village in long beach.

2013

i know it is late, but i have been thinking of achievements i want to make this year and the best way for me to follow these are by making them public. this is my proclamation for myself. i always thought resolutions were kind of pointless. why do you have to start them on the first of the year instead of any other day, but now i kind of get it. in the start of a new year i feel like a new person and i see clearer the better person i want to be, so here it goes.

1. read more. ever since i started college, and being a history major, i have seen reading as a chore, but this is going to change. i have already started 'papertowns' by john green and will be clearing my book shelf to start buying new books (no kindle for me). i also plan on reading 'perks of being a wallflower,' 'the hunger games,' 'the velvet rage,' 'the devil may care,' 'the fault in our stars,' and ' miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children.'

2. estoy aprediendo español. slowly, but surely.

3. rid myself of some clutter

4. clean out my computer. i have so much stuff stored. i also need to update my external.

5. do more fun stuff around the area. so-cal has so much to offer and i should take more advantage of that. i also want to learn more about the history. this will also lead to more posts.

6. be more crafty, especially for the holidays, and make more art. this will also lead to more posts.

7. of course post more.

8. lower my stress level. this is the key to everything. it will allow me to be more productive, do more i enjoy, and over all and most importantly, allow me to be happier. currently, most of this stress i'm going through is because of a young adult crisis i am experiencing, but it is getting better.

also, these pictures are of me in the ye old days. a time when i was über blonde and über tan. i remember these were taken in Malibu when i was in the third grade. i use to love going there as a kid and have such wonderful memories. now for song of the post....it is a broadway tune. it is called 'runaway with me' and sung by Aaron Tveit, currently known as Enjolras from Les Misérables. i have been obsessed with this cover since october. enjoy.

PALM SPRINGS POSTCARDS

YAY, so here is the first of the California postcard posts. i did some research online to find out if these were actually genuine or reprints because i do have some of those. i have come to the conclusion that these are in fact fakes, but i don't mind. i kind of guessed it because of how bright the ink is, but i could be wrong. Stephen F. Willard, the artist, was known for his work in palm springs' scenery. these are reprints of postcards somewhere between 1930 & 1945.

"the desert gives us at times some of the most astounding combinations of scenery. the brilliant wild flowers  and date gardens with a back drop of snow-capped mountains only a few miles away are hard to believe." oh, how i love old California advertisement. it was so much more unsubtle then.

"in the jungle, Palm Canyon, California. to appreciate the canyon and its tropical beauty, one must go down into it and wander through its luxuriant jungles of native fan palms."

hopefully i will start doing more more projects, either art or diy. the new years is a time of transformation, and also a time when i start to reorganize my room and make changes with my self and how i utilize my time. because of this, i tend to do tons of diys. i may also include some from last year that i never shared. i hope upload a les mis post with a project i am currently working on and some some of my favorite songs from the musical/movie. i've already seen the movie twice, so good.

now for the song of the post. it is another radio hit, but i really haven't listened to new music in any other way. so damn catchy. 'trojans' by atlas genius.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

my resolution? to post more. i've been feeling inspired lately. did some art today and celebrated the new year by wearing my sequin new years dress with my bathrobe and cider in hand in the comfort of my bedroom. sad you say? no better way than to stay at home or maybe travel. also here is a pretty song to ring in the new year 'auld lang syne' by lea michele.
